This Weekend in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY — Charlie Wilson is coming to Stockbridge Saturday night. The Aquatic Center just opened its doors last weekend and the summer is already showing off. Forty minutes up the road, Atlanta is hosting a World Cup match. Henry County doesn’t do slow summers. This one is proving it.

Events: June 26–28
Friday, June 26
7 Summers — A Morgan Wallen Tribute Band
Friday Spotlight  •  McDonough
Southern Roots Tavern • 15 Griffin St • McDonough
If you’ve been waiting for an excuse to get out to Southern Roots this summer, Friday night is it. 7 Summers is one of the most talked-about tribute acts on the Southern circuit — two hours of Morgan Wallen’s catalog played the way it was meant to sound. “Last Night,” “Whiskey Glasses,” “Sand In My Boots” — all of it, live on the Square. Southern Roots brings in acts that actually draw a crowd, and this one will. Grab tickets early, this show won’t be empty.

Charlie Wilson — Live in Concert
Saturday Spotlight  •  Stockbridge  •  ★ Big Show
VyStar Amphitheater at The Bridge • 4650 N Henry Blvd • Stockbridge
This is a big one. Charlie Wilson — the legendary frontman of The Gap Band, the voice behind “You Dropped a Bomb on Me,” “Outstanding,” and decades of R&B classics — is performing live at VyStar Amphitheater in Stockbridge on Saturday night. He’s been selling out venues for 50 years and at 74 he is still one of the best performers in the business. Co-headlining is saxophonist and smooth R&B artist Mike Phillips, whose instrumentals have become a soundtrack for nights exactly like this one. This show is going to bring Henry County’s grown-and-sexy crowd out in full force. Book your tickets now — they’re on Ticketmaster and availability at this price won’t last. Show is rain or shine. Clear bags only per venue policy.

Not going to Charlie Wilson? Southern Roots has you covered with a night of Def Leppard, Van Halen, Bon Jovi, and Mötley Crüe packed into one band. Def Van Jovi Crue does the 80s right — big hair energy, big guitar riffs, the whole thing. A different kind of Saturday night on the Square.

Worth the Trip
DR Congo vs Uzbekistan — FIFA World Cup 2026
Worth the Trip Spotlight  •  Atlanta  •  ~40 min from McDonough
Atlanta Stadium • Atlanta • FIFA World Cup 2026™
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is happening right now — and Atlanta is one of the host cities. Saturday night, June 27 at 7:30 PM, DR Congo faces Uzbekistan at Atlanta Stadium in a Group Stage match. Atlanta is hosting eight total matches including a semifinal in July, and the energy in the city this summer is something Henry County residents should experience at least once. If Charlie Wilson has you covered Saturday evening, keep this one in mind for another weekend. But if you want to be part of a World Cup moment 40 minutes from home, this is the ticket.

Where to Eat This Weekend
If you’re heading to Charlie Wilson Saturday night, plan dinner before the show — the area around VyStar fills up fast on concert nights. These are some of our favorites in the county.
These features are not reviews. Information sourced from official restaurant websites and public listings. Always call ahead to confirm hours and availability.
📍 30 Macon St, McDonough Square  |  🕐 Fri–Sun 5–11 PM  |  Lowcountry • Southern • Fine Dining  |  ⭐ Reservations recommended via OpenTable
Right on the McDonough Square, Pandora is the county’s most talked-about fine dining experience right now. Chef Carlos Brown’s Gullah-Lowcountry menu — lamb chops, shrimp & grits, fried green tomatoes with house corn sauce — in a room that feels like it belongs in Buckhead. Marble bar, soft jazz some nights, dress-up-a-little energy. If you’re making it a real Saturday night out before or after the Charlie Wilson show, this is the move. Book ahead.
Stockbridge
📍 114 MLK Senior Heritage Trail, Stockbridge  |  🕐 Sun Noon–10 PM  |  Pizza • Full Bar • Vibes
Handcrafted pizzas, creative cocktails, a full bar, and the right energy for a pre-show dinner. Crown Pizza Bar is close to VyStar and hits different on a Saturday night — exposed brick, flat screens, and food that holds up. A strong call before Charlie Wilson.
